» Your tasks

We are looking for a Medical Data scientist to pursue an academic career in biomedical informatics and data science. Your tasks will be:

  • Implement novel machine learning and AI methods and improve health and well-being by translating AI into the health care practice
  • Contribute to the development of a research agenda for the digital transformation of healthcare services and infrastructure
  • Develop innovative technologies in collaboration with national (German) medical and research data infrastructures such as the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), and the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)
  • Closely collaborate with Uniklinik Köln clinics and research centers such as CIO, CECAD, and CMMC to help them to discover new insights from data
  • Support data reusability, big data management for research, and multimodal data integration
  • Actively take part in developing an interdisciplinary teaching curriculum for medical data scientists and develop new modules both for medical and informatics students
  • Mentoring informatics master and medical doctoral students, research work, and project teams
  • Contribute to publishing results at (international) conferences and journals
  • Support the acquisition of new projects in the field of medical data science
  • Collaborate with the other Ph.D. and Postdoc researchers within Uni Köln, in national networks, and internationally
» Your Profile
  • M.Sc. degree - preferably acquired or near-to-completion Ph.D. - in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Information Technologies, or a related field
  • Excellent track records in their academic field
  • A good background in data-driven methods (e.g. machine learning, statistics, ) and/or knowledge-driven methods (e.g. logic programming, automated reasoning, expert systems)
  • Good programming skills and experience
  • Strong willingness to learn new technologies
  • Knowledge of modern software development tools and data science practices such as continuous integration (CI), continuous deployment (CD), and containerization
  • Experience or willingness to learn health care related standards (e.g. data exchange, HL7 or terminologies)
  • Be independent, self-motivated, reliable, and eager to learn and solve practical challenges
  • Good communication skills and eager to work as part of a research team/ interdisciplinary research teams
  • Innovative, committed, and collaborative
  • Good command of English and, preferably, also of German
