Jobbeschreibung

» Your tasks

You would work in an interdisciplinary team of basic researchers, computational biologists and clinician scientists. The project will examine cellular metabolism as a target to treat kidney disease. As a first step the nematode C. elegans will be used to screen for metabolic interventions that increase lifespan as a readout of stress resistance. This screen will be based on existing metabolic, proteomics and single-nucleus RNAsequencing data and will be performed using the lifespan machine. This tool has been established in our lab and designed for automated analysis of 14,000 worms in parallel. The most promising interventions will then be transferred to mouse models to test their potency in kidney disease with the future goal of clinical translation. As a consequence, this project will also benefit greatly from the interaction with our clinical study centre and the availability of large-scale biobanks containing human samples after metabolic interventions. Beside the research project joint supervision of doctoral students together with the principal investigators will be a part of the tasks.

» Your Profile

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc candidate who has a strong background in biology / biochemistry, has previously worked with the nematode C. elegans and is interested in research using model organisms to translate molecular mechanisms from bench to bedside.

We are searching for a highly motivated and qualified scientist with research interests in the area of:

  • Molecular and cell biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Pharmacology

Required skills:

  • Good training in molecular biology
  • Experience with the nematode elegans
  • Interest in using murine disease models (previous skills not necessarily required)
» Our Offer

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated research team at the excellence cluster CECAD and benefit from strong collaborative interaction inside and outside the laboratory, as well as generous technical support. The University of Cologne covers a wide range of biomedical research with a strong commitment to developmental biology, providing an excellent scientific environment, state-of-the-art imaging facilities and interactions with world class biochemists, molecular geneticists and developmental biologists.

We offer a stimulating scientific environment (CECAD, CMMC) and excellent guidance. Our lab has interesting national and international collaborations with excellent partners. Applicants will have access to cutting-edge technology including all CECAD and CMMC core facilities and the opportunity for collaborations in an excellent scientific setting.

» Your future with us

A close network with many university and non-university partners guarantees an internationally successful science and the excellent education of our students.

» Your future in detail

Our team is part of the Center of Excellence for cellular stress responses in aging-associated diseases (CECAD) of the University of Cologne. CECAD provides an extremely dynamic environment for research into the aging process and related diseases. You will join this research environment to make an important contribution to finding novel therapeutic strategies for so far unmet clinical needs.
