Jobbeschreibung
3-year PhD position (m/f/d): Sulfur Cycling in Wetlands and its Coupling to Iron and CarbonThe Applied Geochemistry group at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Freiburg (Germany), invites applications for a 3-year PhD position (70 % part-time).
Im Folgenden finden Sie Informationen über die Anforderungen der Stelle, die erwartete Erfahrung des Bewerbers und die dazugehörigen Qualifikationen.
Project Background
Sulfur cycling is a key yet understudied aspect of wetland biogeochemistry. In oxygen-limited environments like peatlands and the Wadden Sea, sulfate rapidly transforms into sulfide, which interacts with iron minerals and influences carbon cycling. Due to the instability of sulfur compounds, conventional analytical methods often fail to capture these processes.
This PhD project will investigate sulfur redox transformations in wetlands and their links to iron and carbon cycling. The work combines laboratory experiments, analytical method development (HPLC, LC-ICP-MS), and fieldwork in the Black Forest, focusing on sulfur pools and transformations in minerotrophic peatlands.
