Working Student (f/m/d) for C++ Development in the SAP HANA database in Walldorf

SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures.

SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

SAP HANA is a powerful data management platform that focuses on real-time business applications. At its core, SAP HANA is an in-memory database management system designed to simultaneously process transactional and analytical workloads in a wide range of environments, scaling from multi-core and multi-socket to distributed setups. The JSON Document Store is a relatively new component in HANA. It allows to store and process JSON documents natively in HANA. We want to continuously enhance our code base, add low-level supportability tools, improve our memory handling and optimize performance.

In C++ memory allocation and handling may get complicated. This is especially true in a database server process where memory leaks hurt and tracking of memory consumption is key for supportability. In Document Store, we would like to improve our memory handling and seek a diligent working student who is eager to learn and contribute.

  • Make yourself familiar with HANA, a large C++ code base, the Document Store and our infrastructure
  • Develop a concept for sub-allocators
  • Use proper sub-allocators for low-level data structures
  • Find ways to use sub-allocators to test for memory leaks
  • Find a way to visualize the memory consumption of given artifacts
  • Find a way to monitor memory-intense mechanisms and find out how customers should configure them for good performance.

You are a currently enrolled student at a university or a university of applied sciences:

  • Studying preferably in the fields: Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics
  • Having the following computer skills: intermediate in C++, unit testing, ideally Python, Linux, git and Gerrit
  • Speaking English and/or German fluently
  • Besides that, you are eager to learn C++, work with low-level data structures, improve code and be diligent to create high-quality code

Then YOU are the right candidate for this position. We are looking forward to your application and getting to know you.

Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, certificate of enrollment, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships). Please describe as well your experience and skills in foreign languages and computer programs / programming languages.
