Construction Project Management Internship
As a Construction Project Management Intern, you’ll play a key role in the start-up phase of the European Gigafactory construction phase in the Berlin area. You’ll be surrounded by bright minds who are eager to get this ambitious project off the ground. The team is looking for an Intern with a can-do attitude, who rolls up their sleeves to get things done and who has great communication as well as prioritization skills.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the small team that is going to work on one of the largest and most ambitious construction projects in Europe.
Learning goals and tasks:
Strategic and analytical in approach when evaluating construction progress or obstacles and provide solutions to stay on schedule and minimize cost, impacts, etc.
Knowledge and experience in design development, permitting strategies, construction documentation and administration, sharp focus on project closeout
Work closely with engineering team, construction team, contracts, manufacturing and commissioning team.
Support cost estimating, utilizing BIM.
Support reality capture and existing conditions documentation and understanding of potential construction issues or unique conditions.
Communicate regularly to management and the project team with project updates such as the status of each stage, upcoming benchmark goals, potential issues, etc.
Support reporting on construction progress, risks, and schedule/budget exposures.
Work with procurement team to create biddable work packages and verify contractor bids against cost/schedule estimates.
Develop templates and standards for future phases/projects.
Troubleshoot walk down and resolve control system issues that arise from the field.
Quickly respond to queries and resolve any technical barriers to completion.
Develop, communicate and improve upon plans for logistics and other project plans.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Construction Management or Chemical Engineering in progress.
Previous internship or work experience designing, building, and starting up control systems for large industrial construction projects desired.
Excellent written and verbal communication in German and English.
Willingness to spend a high percentage of time in the field and to get hands dirty as needed to complete objectives or find the correct information.
Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and ambitious goals.
Familiarity with design and construction technologies and platforms, such as BIM, reality capture methods, and construction/project management software.
Understand project budgeting and scheduling and the ability to communicate and work closely with internal and external clients to ensure that project milestones are being met and deliverables are on-time and complete.
Experience with all stages of development including due diligence, design, bidding, contract management, and closeout
Self-directed with a high level of initiative and a “can do” attitude, but open to feedback and a strong desire to learn and adjust accordingly.
