@PAYBACK we are obsessed about data! Our platforms, products and services are as data driven as it gets and we never get tired of taking it to the next level. That’s why we’re looking for you, so you can guide and inspire our Software Engineering Teams in the DATA department (Munich and Warsaw).

We give you the flexibility and top management backing you need to really have an impact on how to build data-intensive applications on the intersection of Data + Software Engineering. Buzzwords and inflated egos are not our thing. We are looking for a humble thought leader, a visionary architect, someone who really cares about software engineering principles applied to massive amounts of data, an agile player and a people leader who never stopped coding.
YOUR TASKS
  • You want to build one of the most efficient and modern data landscapes out there and set new benchmarks
  • You are eager to apply known software-engineering principles and frameworks such as Domain-Driven Design on data-intensive applications
  • You facilitate und support the migration of existing applications and services into a modern & future-proof technology stack
  • Diversity and inclusion are key success factors for you and you never get tired of challenging the status quo
  • You understand on premise and cloud-based setups, you can reason about their benefits and downsides
  • You drive the continuous optimization of our data landscape, data products and services
  • You’re the humble leader of our Software Engineering teams within the DATA organization in Munich and Warsaw and give them strategic direction as well as a helping hand and you are not afraid of getting your hands dirty from time to time when it comes to the implementation
  • You help shaping the ongoing modernization of our data operating model and you understand that developing and operating an application go hand in hand
  • You attract talent and help our teams to grow their skills
OUR TECH STACK
We continuously modernize our stack and are increasingly shifting to cloud services and platforms, in particular on GCP.

However, here’s the laundry list: Google core services like GCS, Compute, K8s/GKE and Docker for containerized applications, BigQuery as a central DB-technology and Python (our core language to build data-driven applications) as well as CI/CD tool such as Google Cloud Build or Jenkins.
Also of interest are: Google Service APIs for Python, Airflow, Spark, Google Composer, Google Pub/Sub and Kafka, Google Dataflow, Spark, Oracle PL/SQL & SAS.
YOUR PROFILE
  • You have 4+ years of experience as a (Lead-) Software or Data Engineer, (Lead-) Data Architect or similar position. We really don’t care how many years exactly; we’re more interested in what you’ve done so far and what you stand for
  • You know the difference between an Entity and a Value Object and are aware of Design Patterns such as a Factory, Builder etc.
  • You breathe and live principles such as SOC or SOLID; You consider constant refactoring not as a weakness, but as a necessity and strength
  • Processing large amounts of data gets you excited, and you know what it takes to turn them into value by building domain-specific services that hold up to high standards of quality, scalability, and operability
  • You have experience in leading software or data-engineers in modern settings
  • Agile working modes, domain driven design and professional development standards are what you live and breathe
  • You aim for quality and a healthy balance of cost and benefit
  • You’re fluent in English and working skills of German would help
