PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES 
The SAP Core Platform team stands for SAP's technology layer that is used by millions of business people all over the world. In small and agile development teams, we innovate on compilers, virtual machines, higher-level application services, and development environments to make SAP the best-run enterprise software on all supported cloud and on-premises platforms. As a central part of our technology we offer a set of programming languages like ABAP or ABAP CDS that enable developers from SAP, partners or customers to model and develop highly efficient business applications.

Our business application development platform provides languages, compilers, VMs, SDKs and IDEs for large scale application development, i.e. to develop, integrate, deploy and run business applications on any premises, from our customer’s IT infrastructure to SAP-managed cloud infrastructures running on cloud foundry as well as Kubernetes.   
Finding the root-cause of poor performance or erroneous behavior in an SAP system is a challenging task. Various SAP tools, such as the SAP Technical Monitoring Cockpit, aim to assist the administrator in this work. Recently, ML algorithms based on Neural Gases and Neural Networks have been studied in the context of master theses in order to detect and classify anomalous states. We now like to build on top of these results and implement a prototype for the SAP Technical Monitoring Cockpit.  
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

We are looking for smart and highly motivated students who want to work besides his or her studies in an inspirational learning and working environment. We offer you a working student contract as a part-time job assignment of a at least six months with an hourly wage. During this time you will work in our offices with close mentorship by our SAP development team and our PhDs. Your tasks are

• Investigate how our approach with Neural Gases and Neural Networks can be built in SAP Data Intelligence and/or what other alternative services are offered by this framework.
• Assist senior developers implementing a pipeline to productize the ML solution.
• Check how system-local findings generalize to systems of different type and workload

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Master student (f/m/d) of computer science, natural science or mathematics 
• Excellent grades
• Programming skills in Python, Keras, or Tensorflow
• Experiences with  machine learing and applied statistics would be an advantage
• Fluency in English and German      
• Good communication skills
